Overview

DAV132 is a **colon-targeted, orally administered adsorbent** composed of activated charcoal beads coated with a pH-sensitive enteric polymer, developed to protect the intestinal microbiota from antibiotic-induced disruption. Its primary mechanism is to adsorb a broad spectrum of antibiotics (notably fluoroquinolones and β-lactams) in the colon, where they can disrupt microbiota, without affecting systemic antibiotic levels or efficacy. This local, non-systemic approach preserves gut microbial diversity, reduces the risk of antibiotic-associated dysbiosis, and is under investigation for prevention of complications including *Clostridioides difficile* infection, colonization by vancomycin-resistant enterococci, and other downstream consequences of dysbiosis. DAV132 has shown efficacy in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in reducing fecal antibiotic concentrations and preserving favorable microbiota parameters in both healthy volunteers and high-risk hospitalized patients.
