Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Davanat (GM-CT-01) is a galactomannan polysaccharide biologic developed by Galectin Therapeutics (formerly Pro-Pharmaceuticals) as a targeted therapy for cancer. Derived from the seeds of the guar plant (*Cyamopsis tetragonoloba*), Davanat is an alpha-galactomannan that undergoes controlled partial chemical degradation to achieve a specific molecular weight range of 51,000 to 59,000 Da. Its primary mechanism of action involves binding to and inhibiting galectin-1 and galectin-3, proteins that are frequently overexpressed in the tumor microenvironment and contribute to immune evasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Davanat is designed to be administered intravenously in combination with cytotoxic chemotherapies, such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), to enhance their anti-tumor activity and potentially reduce systemic toxicity. It has reached Phase 2 clinical development for indications including advanced biliary tract cancers (cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer) and metastatic colorectal cancer.
