Davesomeran is a single-stranded, 5'-capped messenger RNA (mRNA) used as part of the Moderna bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, in combination with elasomeran. It encodes the full-length pre-fusion stabilized spike (S) protein of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant lineages BA.4 and BA.5, which are identical in their S proteins. The mRNA is encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles for delivery into host cells following intramuscular injection, where it is translated into viral spike protein to elicit an immune response that includes both neutralizing antibodies and cellular immunity (T-cell and B-cell responses). Davesomeran is indicated for active immunization against COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants as a booster dose in individuals 12 years of age and older who have completed a primary vaccination course[1][6][8]. The vaccine has demonstrated higher seroresponse against both ancestral SARS-CoV-2 strains and Omicron subvariants compared to monovalent vaccines[1][2].
