Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Davilose is an ophthalmic topical solution containing hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), a semi-synthetic polymer used as a lubricant and artificial tear. Developed and marketed by the Portuguese company DÁVI Farmacêutica, it is indicated for the treatment of dry eye symptoms, conjunctival hyposecretion, and minor ocular irritation. The formulation works by increasing the viscosity of the tear film and forming a protective, moisturizing layer on the corneal surface, thereby reducing friction and preventing desiccation of the ocular tissues. It is available in two strengths: Davilose (5 mg/ml) and Davilose Forte (10 mg/ml), and is approved for over-the-counter use in Portugal.
