Dazucorilant is an orally administered small molecule that acts as a selective glucocorticoid receptor antagonist. It is designed to modulate cortisol activity by blocking the interaction between cortisol and the glucocorticoid receptor, without binding to other hormone receptors. This mechanism aims to reduce the neurotoxic and pro-inflammatory effects of prolonged cortisol exposure, which are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
