Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DB-020 is an investigational drug developed by Decibel Therapeutics for the prevention of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity (hearing loss). It is a proprietary formulation of sodium thiosulfate (STS) pentahydrate in 1% sodium hyaluronate, specifically optimized for intratympanic (transtympanic) injection into the middle ear. The drug works by locally inactivating cisplatin in the cochlea through covalent binding, thereby protecting the sensitive hair cells of the inner ear from damage without interfering with the systemic anti-cancer activity of the chemotherapy. DB-020 has been granted Fast Track designation by the FDA and has completed Phase 1b clinical trials in cancer patients receiving high-dose cisplatin, where it demonstrated a protective effect against hearing loss in the treated ear compared to the placebo-treated ear.
