Overview

DB-H2 is a hexane extract derived from the bark region of *Dioscorea batatas Decne*, a Chinese yam. It has demonstrated anti-atherosclerotic properties by significantly reducing atherosclerotic lesion area and lowering plasma levels of total cholesterol, oxidized-low-density lipoprotein, and c-reactive protein. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-induced vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) expression and monocyte adhesion, as well as suppressing nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in macrophages. These actions suggest its potential as a preventive agent against atherosclerosis.
