**DBH-saporin** is a targeted immunotoxin consisting of a mouse monoclonal antibody against dopamine beta-hydroxylase (DBH) chemically conjugated to the ribosome-inactivating protein saporin, derived from *Saponaria officinalis*. It is designed to selectively eliminate cells expressing DBH, primarily noradrenergic neurons, through a "molecular surgery" method. Upon administration, the antibody portion binds to DBH on the cell surface, is internalized, and delivers saporin, which inhibits ribosomal function and causes cell death. DBH-saporin is predominantly used for research purposes, especially to create animal models of noradrenergic lesioning for the study of neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease, autonomic failure, and to investigate the effects of noradrenergic depletion in behavioral and pharmacological studies. It is considered more selective than traditional neurotoxins like 6-hydroxydopamine, as it spares dopaminergic and other non-target neurons. Key applications include the targeted ablation of locus coeruleus noradrenergic neurons in rodent brains for neurobiology and neuropharmacology research[2][3][6][8].
