Overview
DBI-001 is a topical live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a specific strain of the aerobic Gram-negative bacterium *Janthinobacterium lividum* (strain DB02473). Developed by DermBiont, the drug is designed to address the root cause of inflammatory and infectious skin diseases by restoring microbial balance and inhibiting pathogenic organisms. The bacterium produces several antimicrobial metabolites, including violacein, indol-3-carboxaldehyde, and janthinocins, which have demonstrated activity against common skin pathogens. In clinical trials, DBI-001 has shown efficacy in reducing the abundance of *Staphylococcus aureus* in patients with atopic dermatitis and *Trichophyton rubrum* in patients with tinea pedis (athlete's foot). The product is formulated as a gel for daily topical application and has demonstrated a favorable safety and tolerability profile in Phase 2 studies.
