Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DBI-002 probiotic gel is an investigational topical live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed by DermBiont for the treatment of fungal skin infections, including tinea versicolor, onychomycosis, and interdigital tinea pedis. The formulation consists of a topical aqueous gel containing the live probiotic bacterium *Janthinobacterium lividum*. Its mechanism of action involves the reduction of *Malassezia* species, the fungi responsible for tinea versicolor, likely through the production of antifungal metabolites such as violacein. DBI-002 has been evaluated in a Phase 2a randomized, double-blind, dose-escalating trial (NCT04937920) to assess its safety and antimicrobial efficacy in adults with tinea versicolor.
