Overview

DBI-102 is a topical gel formulation of ruboxistaurin, a selective protein kinase C-beta (PKC-beta) inhibitor, being developed by DermBiont, Inc. for the treatment of hyperpigmentation. The drug targets the phosphorylation of tyrosinase, a key enzyme in melanin production, by inhibiting PKC-beta activity in melanocytes. This mechanism is designed to reduce melanin synthesis and address hyperpigmentation disorders. DBI-102 has been studied in a Phase 2, randomized, observer-blinded, vehicle-controlled trial (NCT06099080) involving adults with Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV-V, where it was compared against 4% hydroquinone cream and a vehicle gel.
