DC activated CIK + DC is a combination cellular immunotherapy regimen consisting of autologous cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells activated by dendritic cells (DCIK) and a dendritic cell (DC) vaccine. CIK cells are a heterogeneous population of effector cells, primarily CD3+CD56+ NKT cells, that exhibit potent, non-MHC-restricted cytotoxic activity against tumor cells. In this regimen, CIK cells are co-cultured with dendritic cells to enhance their anti-tumor efficacy. The second component is a DC vaccine, where autologous dendritic cells are pulsed with tumor-associated antigens to prime and activate an antigen-specific T-cell immune response. This dual approach aims to combine the rapid, broad-spectrum killing of CIK cells with the durable, specific immunity induced by DC vaccination. It is currently being investigated by Qingdao University in Phase I/II clinical trials for the treatment of malignant glioma.
