DC-Ad-Null is a dendritic cell-based vaccine used as a negative control (sham treatment) in research studies evaluating the efficacy of dendritic cell vaccines, such as DC-Ad-GM·CAIX, for cancer immunotherapy[1][4]. DC-Ad-Null consists of dendritic cells transduced with an adenoviral vector that does not express any therapeutic transgene and therefore does not induce a tumor antigen-specific immune response. It is used in preclinical models as a comparator to characterize background immune responses and ascertain the effects attributable to the presence of a therapeutic gene in dendritic cell vaccines. It does not elicit anti-tumor effects and serves as the standard control group in both prevention and treatment models when evaluating dendritic cell-immunotherapy against cancers, such as renal cell carcinoma[1][4].
