DC161-DP0291 is an oral spray formulation developed as a saliva substitute for the treatment of drug-induced xerostomia (dry mouth). Developed by Pierre Fabre (Institut de Recherche Pierre Fabre), it was designed to provide symptomatic relief for patients with documented hyposalivation. In a 2016 randomized clinical trial, DC161-DP0291 was one of three formulations (alongside DC161-DP0292 and DC161-DP0293) evaluated for efficacy and safety. The product acts as a topical lubricant rather than a systemic drug with a specific biological target. Results from the clinical study indicated that DC161-DP0291 did not significantly reduce mouth dryness compared to the comparator product Aequasyal®, leading to the prioritization of other formulations like DC161-DP0292.
