DCAG is not a single pharmaceutical agent but rather an acronym commonly used in hematology and oncology to refer to a specific combination chemotherapy regimen. The DCAG regimen consists of decitabine, cytarabine, aclarubicin, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). This combination is primarily used for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), particularly in elderly patients or those who are unfit for intensive chemotherapy. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action: - Decitabine is a hypomethylating agent that inhibits DNA methyltransferase. - Cytarabine is an antimetabolite that interferes with DNA synthesis. - Aclarubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II. - G-CSF stimulates the production of neutrophils and may enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy by promoting cell cycle entry.
