DCB-204 is an engineered artificial platelet (en-aPLT) therapy developed by Dewcell Biotherapeutics using a proprietary induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived platform. Unlike conventional donor-derived platelets, DCB-204 consists of platelets that have been genetically or chemically engineered to enhance their therapeutic functionality, specifically for the treatment of inflammatory conditions. The product is primarily being developed for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), leveraging the innate ability of platelets to home to sites of vascular injury and inflammation. By concentrating therapeutic activity within the pulmonary microvasculature, DCB-204 aims to modulate the immune response and reduce tissue damage. This approach provides a standardized, off-the-shelf cell therapy that circumvents the supply limitations and safety risks associated with traditional blood-derived platelet transfusions.
