Overview

DCD shRNA is an experimental RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic consisting of short hairpin RNA (shRNA) sequences designed to target and silence the Dermcidin (DCD) gene. DCD is a candidate oncogene located on chromosome 12q13.1 that is overexpressed in several malignancies, including melanoma, breast, and prostate cancers, where it functions as a growth and survival factor. By constitutively expressing shRNA against DCD mRNA, researchers have demonstrated a significant reduction in tumor cell proliferation, increased sensitivity to cytotoxic agents, and inhibited tumor growth in human melanoma xenograft models. This program was primarily explored by researchers at the University of São Paulo.
