DCV3 + peginterferon alfa-2a is an experimental combination therapy investigated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It consists of DCV3, an autologous dendritic cell-based therapeutic vaccine (monocyte-derived dendritic cells pulsed with heat-inactivated autologous HIV-1), and peginterferon alfa-2a, a pegylated formulation of the cytokine interferon alpha-2a. The vaccine component is designed to stimulate an immune response against the patient's specific HIV strain by presenting autologous viral antigens to the immune system. Peginterferon alfa-2a acts as a biologic immunomodulator that binds to the Type I interferon receptor, enhancing the antiviral immune response and potentially reducing the viral reservoir. Clinical trials sponsored by Judit Pich Martínez have evaluated the safety, immunogenicity, and virologic effects of this combination in HIV-1 infected adults on stable antiretroviral therapy (cART).
