DCVac-L is an autologous dendritic cell-based immunotherapy developed by the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine for the treatment of recurrent ovarian and primary peritoneal cancer. The vaccine is personalized for each patient by isolating their monocytes, differentiating them into dendritic cells, and loading them with autologous tumor cell lysate derived from the patient's own tumor or malignant effusion. This process allows the dendritic cells to present a broad array of patient-specific tumor-associated antigens to the immune system. Upon intradermal administration, these matured dendritic cells are intended to prime and activate cytotoxic T-lymphocytes to recognize and eliminate malignant cells. In clinical trials, DCVac-L has been evaluated in combination with bevacizumab and low-dose cyclophosphamide to enhance immunogenicity and overcome tumor-mediated immunosuppression.
