Overview

DCVax-001 is a recombinant protein vaccine candidate engineered for the prevention and potential treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. This vaccine is constructed as a fusion protein, incorporating a human monoclonal antibody that specifically targets the dendritic cell receptor DEC-205 (CD205), along with the HIV gag p24 protein. Its mechanism involves directing HIV antigens to the endocytic pathways within dendritic cells, thereby facilitating the efficient processing and presentation of multiple HIV peptides on both MHC class I and II molecules. This process is intended to stimulate the production of HIV-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells, aiming to induce a robust immune response. DCVax-001 is designed to be administered in conjunction with appropriate immunostimulants (adjuvants) to enhance its immunogenic effects.
