DCVax-L is a personalized immunotherapy for cancer, specifically developed for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most aggressive form of primary brain cancer. It is an autologous dendritic cell vaccine manufactured by isolating dendritic cells from a patient's blood and loading them in vitro with antigens derived from the patient’s own tumor tissue. The resulting vaccine is administered via intradermal injection and works by educating the immune system to recognize and attack tumor cells expressing the full set of biomarkers present on that individual’s cancer. This approach aims to generate a broad and sustained anti-tumor immune response by activating both memory and naïve T-cells, leading to cytotoxic activity against tumor cells[1][2][3][5][7]. Developed by Northwest Biotherapeutics, clinical trials have shown promising improvements in survival for GBM patients compared to standard therapies.
