Overview

Deacetylasperulosidic acid is a **naturally occurring iridoid glycoside** found in plants such as *Morinda citrifolia* (noni), *Gardenia jasminoides*, and *Galium rivale*[5][6]. It exhibits **antioxidant** activity by upregulating superoxide dismutase (SOD)[5][1][7][8], with evidence of dose-dependent reduction of oxidative markers in animal studies[5]. Deacetylasperulosidic acid also demonstrates **anti-inflammatory** properties by suppressing multiple cytokines and chemokines linked to inflammatory and allergic responses (e.g., TNF-α, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-1, IL-25, IL-33), reduces histamine secretion, and modulates MAPK/NF-kB signaling[1]. Additionally, it can restore immune balance, activate natural killer cells, and enhance IL-2 production[1][7]. In obesity models, deacetylasperulosidic acid binds peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), decreases mature adipocyte proliferation, and significantly reduces triglyceride and cholesterol levels in animal models[1]. It also shows moderate activity in preventing SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binding to ACE2[1]. Its anticlastogenic effects are demonstrated by suppressing induction of chromosomal aberrations in cell and animal models[8].
