Overview

Debio 1454S is a preclinical, pathogen-specific antibiotic being developed by Debiopharm. It acts as a first-in-class inhibitor of FabI (enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase), an essential enzyme in the bacterial fatty acid biosynthesis pathway. The drug is specifically designed for the intravenous treatment of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) caused by carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. Due to its targeted spectrum of activity, it possesses microbiome-sparing potential, which is a significant advantage in preventing the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
