Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DEBN (Drug-Eluting Biopsy Needle) is a drug-device combination consisting of a polymer-coated biopsy needle and anesthesia needle designed to prevent infectious complications following transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRUS-Bx). Developed by Orphinic Scientific and its portfolio company DEBN, the device is coated with a polymer (such as polyvinyl alcohol) that elutes antibiotics—specifically amikacin and/or ciprofloxacin—directly into the prostate tissue during the procedure. This localized delivery provides targeted antimicrobial prophylaxis, reducing the risk of infection and sepsis without the need for systemic administration or hospitalization.
