Overview

Decidua stroma cells (also known as decidual stromal cells or DSCs) are specialized mesenchymal-derived cells found in the uterine lining (decidua) during pregnancy. They arise from endometrial stromal fibroblasts through a process called decidualization, which is regulated by progesterone and estrogen. These cells play a critical role in embryo implantation, maternal immune tolerance to the fetus, and regulation of trophoblast invasion. Decidua stroma cells modulate local immune responses by interacting with various immune cell types such as natural killer (NK) cells, dendritic cells, macrophages, and mast cells. They secrete cytokines and growth factors that promote successful pregnancy outcomes and help maintain fetal-maternal interface homeostasis[2][3][5][6]. In research settings, primary human DSCs can be isolated from placental or uterine tissue for use in cell therapy studies or disease modeling[8].
