Overview

Decitabine is a chemotherapeutic pyrimidine nucleoside analogue used primarily for treating myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). It works by inducing DNA hypomethylation, which leads to alterations in gene expression. This mechanism helps in reactivating tumor suppressor genes and promoting cellular differentiation or apoptosis in neoplastic cells. Decitabine was developed by MGI Pharma/SuperGen Inc. and approved by the FDA in 2006.
