Overview
Decitabine ointment (VTD-101) is a topical formulation of decitabine, a nucleoside analog and DNA methyltransferase inhibitor. It is being developed for the local treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) grades 2/3 and carcinoma in situ. The mechanism of action for this topical formulation remains officially listed as unknown, but systemically, decitabine acts by inhibiting DNA methylation, leading to reactivation of tumor suppressor genes and induction of cell differentiation or apoptosis. VTD-101 is currently under investigation in clinical trials to determine its safety, tolerability, and recommended phase 2 dose when applied topically[1][2][3][9].
