Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Decomic is an ophthalmic combination solution developed by Ordain Health Care (now part of Exeltis) for the treatment of allergic eye diseases and minor eye irritation. It contains phenylephrine hydrochloride (a vasoconstrictor/decongestant), chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine), boric acid (an antiseptic), and hypromellose or carboxymethylcellulose sodium (lubricants). Phenylephrine constricts blood vessels in the conjunctiva to reduce redness and swelling, while chlorpheniramine blocks histamine H1 receptors to alleviate itching and watering. Boric acid helps maintain pH and prevent infection, and the polymeric lubricants provide moisture to soothe dry, irritated eyes.
