Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Decoril is a fixed-dose combination tablet developed by Stadchem, formulated to alleviate symptoms of the common cold, flu, and allergic rhinitis. It contains four active ingredients: paracetamol (acetaminophen), phenylpropanolamine, chlorpheniramine maleate, and caffeine. Paracetamol serves as an analgesic and antipyretic by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, thereby reducing fever and pain. Phenylpropanolamine is a sympathomimetic decongestant that stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors to constrict blood vessels in the nasal passages, relieving nasal congestion. Chlorpheniramine maleate is a first-generation antihistamine that competitively blocks histamine H1 receptors, alleviating allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. Caffeine is included to enhance the analgesic efficacy of paracetamol and to counteract the sedative effects of chlorpheniramine by acting as an adenosine receptor antagonist.
