Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Deer antler extract is a natural biologic extract derived from deer velvet antler, developed by Velvet Antler Research New Zealand (VARNZ), a joint venture between the Game Industry Board and AgResearch. The extract is a complex mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides (≤10 kDa) and various growth factors, including transforming growth factors (TGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP), nerve growth factor (NGF), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These components collectively promote angiogenesis and endothelial cell proliferation to support tissue regeneration and wound healing. The drug has been evaluated in clinical trials in New Zealand for its ability to improve tissue healing at skin graft donor sites.
