Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Degalactosylated whey protein is a protein-derived nutraceutical and immunomodulator developed by Saisei Pharma. It is produced by treating bovine whey-derived glycoproteins, primarily vitamin D binding protein (VDBP), with β-galactosidase to remove galactose moieties. This enzymatic modification yields a substance with functional activity similar to Gc protein-derived Macrophage Activating Factor (GcMAF). Administered orally, the compound is designed to modulate the mucosal immunity of the intestine and activate macrophages, thereby enhancing the innate immune response. It has been investigated as a research compound for its potential to resolve inflammation and modulate immune responses in patients with COVID-19, and Saisei Pharma has engaged with the US FDA COVID-19 Scientific-Technical Triage to evaluate its efficacy as a dietary supplement in this context.
