Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DehydraTECH-colchicine is an investigational oral formulation of the small molecule colchicine, developed by Cannabis Delivery Sciences (a subsidiary of Lexaria Bioscience) using the proprietary DehydraTECH drug delivery platform. DehydraTECH is designed to enhance the bioavailability, speed of onset, and brain penetration of fat-soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients by bypassing first-pass liver metabolism. Colchicine, a well-established anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits tubulin polymerization, is being repurposed for antiviral applications, including HIV, hepatitis, influenza, and coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The formulation aims to leverage colchicine's ability to modulate the NLRP3 inflammasome and reduce systemic inflammation, which is often a driver of severe viral disease. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
