Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DehydraTECH-tirzepatide is an oral formulation of the dual glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist, tirzepatide, being developed by Lexaria Bioscience and its subsidiary Cannabis Delivery Sciences. The formulation utilizes Lexaria's proprietary DehydraTECH drug delivery technology, which is designed to enhance the bioavailability, speed of onset, and brain penetration of bioactive compounds by improving their absorption through the gastrointestinal tract. By enabling effective oral delivery of tirzepatide—which is typically administered via subcutaneous injection—this candidate aims to provide a more convenient treatment option for patients with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and related metabolic conditions such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), chronic kidney disease, and sleep apnea. The program is currently in the preclinical stage, with ongoing studies evaluating its pharmacokinetic profile compared to existing injectable and oral GLP-1 therapies.
