Overview

Dehydroabietic acid is a naturally occurring tricyclic diterpene resin acid primarily derived from the rosin of coniferous trees such as *Pinus* and *Picea* species. It serves as a significant lead compound in medicinal chemistry due to its diverse biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. Mechanistically, dehydroabietic acid acts as a dual agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors alpha and gamma (PPAR α/γ) and inhibits inflammatory signaling by suppressing the Src-, Syk-, and TAK1-mediated pathways. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its potential against various cancer cell lines (lung, gastric, breast) and multidrug-resistant bacterial strains like *Staphylococcus aureus*. Currently, it is primarily utilized as a research tool and scaffold for drug discovery rather than an approved therapeutic.
