Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and testosterone are endogenous steroid hormones. DHEA is primarily produced by the adrenal cortex and serves as a precursor to both androgens (including testosterone) and estrogens. It can be converted in peripheral tissues into more potent sex steroids such as testosterone, androstenedione, estradiol, and estrone[1][5][8]. Testosterone is the principal male sex hormone responsible for the development of male secondary sexual characteristics; it also plays roles in muscle mass maintenance, bone density regulation, libido, mood stabilization, and erythropoiesis. DHEA supplementation has been investigated for its potential to increase endogenous testosterone levels—especially in aging men or those with adrenal insufficiency—and may have modest effects on free testosterone after exercise[4]. Both hormones act via binding to androgen receptors (testosterone directly; DHEA indirectly through conversion), modulating gene expression that drives anabolic processes. DHEA is available as a dietary supplement in various forms (tablet, capsule, powder, topical cream/gel)[1][5], while pharmaceutical-grade formulations of both hormones exist for specific medical indications such as hypogonadism or menopausal symptoms. The combination of these two agents would be considered a multi-ingredient therapy aimed at androgen replacement or enhancement.
