Overview

Deionized water is water that has had most dissolved mineral ions (cations and anions) removed through ion exchange processes, but may still contain uncharged organic molecules. It is characterized by its high purity and low conductivity, making it suitable for laboratory and pharmaceutical applications. Deionized water exists in different grades (Type I, II, III, IV) according to ASTM standards, with varying levels of purity measured by resistivity, conductivity, TOC levels, and other parameters.
