Overview

Delafloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) in adults. It exhibits broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Delafloxacin acts by inhibiting two essential bacterial enzymes—DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV—which are required for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This dual-targeting mechanism results in bactericidal activity. Delafloxacin was developed by Melinta Therapeutics[2][5][6].
