Overview

Deleobuvir is an investigational small molecule drug that was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It acts as a non-nucleoside inhibitor of the HCV NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, specifically binding reversibly and noncovalently to thumb pocket 1 of the enzyme. Deleobuvir demonstrated antiviral activity in clinical trials, particularly in combination regimens with other direct-acting antivirals such as faldaprevir and ribavirin, showing high efficacy in HCV genotype 1b patients but poor response in genotype 1a. Development was discontinued after phase III trials due to insufficient efficacy[1][4][5][7].
