Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Delgacil Plus is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by Laboratorios Catedral for the management of obesity and overweight. It combines 120 mg of orlistat, a potent gastrointestinal lipase inhibitor, with 200 mg of L-carnitine, an amino acid derivative essential for fatty acid metabolism. Orlistat exerts its effect within the gastrointestinal tract by covalently binding to the active serine site of gastric and pancreatic lipases, thereby preventing the hydrolysis of dietary fats into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides. This results in approximately 30% of dietary fat passing through the system unabsorbed. L-carnitine is included to support the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix for beta-oxidation, theoretically enhancing the utilization of stored fats for energy. The product is typically used as an adjunct to a calorie-restricted diet.
