Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dellegra is an oral fixed-dose combination product containing the second-generation antihistamine fexofenadine hydrochloride and the sympathomimetic decongestant pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, developed and marketed in Japan for the treatment of sneezing, rhinorrhea, and nasal congestion associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (including cedar pollinosis) and perennial allergic rhinitis caused by dust mites and house dust.[1][6][8] Fexofenadine acts as a selective H1 histamine receptor antagonist and inhibits the release of various chemical mediators involved in the allergic response, while pseudoephedrine exerts vasoconstrictive effects on the nasal mucosa to reduce blood flow and improve nasal congestion.[1][3][5][6] The product is supplied as a controlled-release oral tablet, typically dosed twice daily on an empty stomach in adults and children 12 years and older, and is available only by prescription under Japanese approval.[1][3][6]
