Overview

Delphinidin is a natural anthocyanidin and dietary antioxidant found in various fruits and vegetables, particularly berries and grapes. It functions as a potent inhibitor of hyaluronidase, an enzyme often overexpressed in metastatic cancers that degrades high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HMW-HA). By preserving HMW-HA levels within the extracellular matrix, delphinidin exerts anti-proliferative, anti-migratory, and anti-invasive effects on cancer cells. Research from the University of Rochester and the Salk Institute has demonstrated its efficacy in preclinical models of melanoma, breast, and prostate cancer, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic agent for the prevention and treatment of cancer metastasis.
