Overview

Delphinidin-3-O-glucoside is a naturally occurring anthocyanin, specifically the 3-O-glucoside of delphinidin, found in pigmented plants such as Hibiscus sabdariffa, black beans, and various berries[2][6][15]. It is a strong antioxidant and exerts biological effects through reducing oxidative stress, modulating inflammation, and regulating lipid metabolism[1][3][5]. Molecular mechanisms include inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-6), downregulation of NF-κB and VCAM-1, enhancement of antioxidant enzymes (GSH-PX, SOD, CAT), and inhibition of endothelial and cancer cell proliferation by suppressing mitochondrial dysfunction and decreasing expression of VEGF and PD-L1[1][3][5]. Delphinidin-3-O-glucoside is investigated for vascular protection, atherosclerosis prevention, cardiovascular health, and potential anti-cancer activity, typically studied as a dietary phytochemical or supplement, not as a regulated pharmaceutical.
