Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Delsam Pharma Artificial Tears is an over-the-counter (OTC) ophthalmic lubricant solution containing 1% carboxymethylcellulose sodium. Manufactured by Global Pharma Healthcare and distributed by Delsam Pharma, it is designed to provide temporary relief from dry eye symptoms, including burning and irritation caused by environmental factors like wind or sun. The active ingredient, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, is a high-molecular-weight polymer that increases tear viscosity and stabilizes the tear film, acting as a protectant for the ocular surface. In early 2023, the product was subject to a major voluntary recall following reports of serious bacterial contamination (carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa) linked to vision loss and other adverse health outcomes.
