delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol + cannabidiol (University Medical Center Groningen)

Cannabis oil + THC + CBD is a medicinal cannabis oil formulation containing 10% delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and 5% cannabidiol (CBD), administered sublingually. It is currently being investigated as an anti-tumor agent in the 'CanHep' study, a Phase 2a pilot trial conducted at the Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen (UMCG) in the Netherlands. The trial targets patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who are not candidates for standard therapies. The active cannabinoids, THC and CBD, interact with the endocannabinoid system, primarily through cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, and are hypothesized to modulate various oncogenic signaling pathways to induce tumor regression. The rationale for the trial was supported by case reports of durable complete regression of advanced HCC associated with cannabis oil use.
