Overview

Delta inulin is a biocompatible polysaccharide particle derived from poly(fructo-furanosyl) α-d-glucose. It is an immunologically active and temperature-stable isoform of inulin that acts as a potent immune adjuvant. Delta inulin enhances both humoral and cellular immune responses to co-administered antigens by activating the complement system and binding to monocytes, thereby regulating chemokine production and cell surface protein expression[1][6]. Its mechanism of action involves binding to the dendritic cell–specific intercellular adhesion molecule-3-grabbing nonintegrin (DC-SIGN) receptor on antigen-presenting cells, which helps activate and boost adaptive immunity[5]. Delta inulin has been used as the basis for Advax, a vaccine adjuvant evaluated for use with vaccines against influenza, hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, West Nile virus, HIV, anthrax, Listeria, and insect-sting allergy[2][8]. It is safe and well tolerated when administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly.
