Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Delta-tocopherol** is one of the four naturally occurring forms of tocopherol (vitamin E derivatives), distinguished from the others by its methylation pattern (methyl group at position 8 of the chromanol ring)[2][4]. It is a fat-soluble antioxidant found especially in maize (corn) oil and soybean oil[2]. Like other tocopherols, delta-tocopherol protects cell membranes from oxidative damage by scavenging free radicals. While α-tocopherol is the major form used in the human body to treat vitamin E deficiency, delta-tocopherol exhibits strong antioxidant behavior and has been investigated for potential anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antiangiogenic, and neuroprotective effects[2]. The mechanism involves neutralizing reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and may include modulation of cell signaling and gene expression pathways[1][2][4].
