Overview

Delta-tocotrienol is a naturally occurring member of the vitamin E family, specifically one of the four tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta). It is found in various vegetable oils (such as palm oil), wheat germ, barley, and certain nuts and grains. Delta-tocotrienol has demonstrated anti-cancer activity in preclinical studies by accumulating in cancer cells and exerting effects through downregulation or degradation of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, cell cycle arrest, induction of caspase-mediated apoptosis, inhibition of angiogenesis and metastasis pathways. It also induces endoplasmic reticulum stress leading to unfolded protein response activation. Clinical trials have explored its use as an adjunct therapy for chemotherapy-refractory ovarian cancer with promising disease stabilization rates[1][4][5][6][8]. As a dietary supplement ingredient it is marketed for cardiovascular health benefits such as cholesterol lowering[2].
