Overview

This therapy is a combination cellular immunotherapy involving dendritic cells (DCs) and cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs, also known as CD8+ T cells). Dendritic cells are potent antigen-presenting cells that can be loaded with tumor antigens ex vivo and then administered to patients to prime and activate CTLs. The activated CTLs are responsible for recognizing and killing tumor cells. This approach aims to induce a robust, antigen-specific anti-tumor immune response by leveraging the cross-priming ability of DCs to stimulate effective cytotoxic activity from CTLs. Clinical studies have shown that this strategy can enhance cell-mediated immunity, extend time to disease progression, and generate long-lived memory responses in cancer patients. However, clinical efficacy varies depending on patient selection, tumor type, DC subset used (e.g., cDC1), and the quality of immune activation achieved[2][4][6].
