A cellular immunotherapy consisting of autologous dendritic cells (DCs) and cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells. DCs are typically pulsed with tumor-associated antigens (such as those from gastric cancer cell lysates) to enhance antigen presentation and prime T-cell responses. CIK cells are a heterogeneous population of effector T cells (predominantly CD3+CD56+) generated by the ex vivo expansion of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in the presence of cytokines like IFN-gamma, IL-2, and anti-CD3 antibodies. This combination therapy leverages the potent antigen-presenting capabilities of DCs and the non-MHC-restricted cytotoxic activity of CIK cells to target and eliminate residual tumor cells. Lanzhou University has been a key developer investigating this vaccine as an adjuvant treatment for gastric cancer to improve survival outcomes and reduce recurrence.
