Dendritic cell loaded livin peptide is an autologous dendritic cell (DC) vaccine designed to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and pulsing them with peptides derived from Livin (also known as BIRC7), a member of the Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein (IAP) family that is frequently overexpressed in various malignancies and associated with resistance to therapy. These antigen-loaded DCs are then re-administered to the patient to prime and activate a specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response against tumor cells expressing the Livin protein. In clinical studies, this cell therapy has been investigated as a sensitization agent to enhance the efficacy of radiotherapy in patients with middle or terminal stage NSCLC, often in conjunction with cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cell therapy.
